A former Reed City grocery store is about to get new life thanks to another well-known northern Michigan grocery store.
The Ebels family recently announced plans to open a grocery store in Reed City.
This will be in addition to their general and hardware stores in Falmouth.
Reed City has been without a full grocery store since Vic’s Supermarket closed last year.
The Ebels family has spent the last three months putting plans in place to bring new life to a former Reed City grocery story. Ebels CFO Bob Ebels says they plan to bring a grocery selection similar to their Falmouth store, along with a deli and bakery.
“We began exploring it about 3 months ago, and put a lot of thought and a lot of prayer into it, and just the community really needs a full like grocery store with lots of different options and we thought we could fulfill that for them, so we’re excited to get down there and get going,” said Ebels.
It’s welcome news for people like Debra Sturdavant who’ve been forced to drive beyond Reed City to do their grocery shopping.
“I just heard it today, I think it’s wonderful, I can’t wait for them to come. They sell a lot of stuff, produce and everything which we all need. It’s going to be wonderful, I only have to go 10 miles instead of 25,” said Sturdavant.
But the Ebels family says, this was much more than just a business move.
“Ultimately it goes back to our mission. Our mission as a company is to be a blessing in the place where God’s put us, and we sure try to do that here in Falmouth, and we feel like we can be a blessing to the community of Reed City by giving them the options that they need,” said Ebels.
Ebels hopes to open their Reed City location sometime in late 2020.
